Preparing a piano for a move is mostly about what you remove and what you leave alone. The lift itself sits with the piano removals crew once they have seen the access.
Clear the room early
Take ornaments off the top. Empty the stool. Move nearby side tables so the first pull away from the wall is clean. Check the outdoor path for pots, hanging baskets and uneven slabs.
Children and pets should be out of the carry route. A piano move needs space and quiet concentration.
Close the instrument
Close the lid and lock it if it locks. Do not tape finished surfaces. Do not store sheet music on top under a blanket “for convenience”. Pack music in a carton.
If the piano has a loose fallboard or unusual fittings, mention that when you send photos.
Share access honestly
Photograph the stair, the tightest turn and where the van can stand. Wickersley drives differ from village paths in Ravenfield or Anston. Measure door widths if you can. We would rather plan a careful method than discover a problem halfway down the stairs.
Tuning after the move is yours to arrange. Give the instrument time to settle in temperature and humidity at the new address.
Same day as other furniture
