Office computers are awkward movers: cables tangle, drives fail without backups, and a dropped monitor ends a working day before it starts. Prep belongs to your IT people and office manager. The office removals crew moves hardware that is already safe to lift.
Back up before you touch a cable
Complete backups while machines still sit on the old network. Confirm restores work. Photograph cable layouts on complex desks so reconnecting is faster. Label both ends of power and network leads.
Laptops that staff will keep using should travel with those staff, not in a mixed crate of keyboards.
Who disconnects what
Desktops can often be powered down and unplugged by trained staff. Servers, switches and phone systems need your IT supplier. Tell the removal crew what will already be disconnected when they arrive. Do not expect movers to isolate rack equipment.
Bag and shred paper files you no longer need so crates are lighter and clearer.
Packing screens and towers
Monitors travel upright, padded, never face-down under desks. Towers go in cartons or blankets with no stacking of heavy pedestals on top. Keep small parts (screws, stand plates) in sealed bags taped to the matching machine, not loose in a shared box.
Ask about packing for glass and fragile meeting-room kit if your team lacks time.
At the new office
Place desks first to your floor plan, then IT boxes in the rooms technicians name. Power up in stages. Test a pilot group of machines before the whole floor arrives for work.
